Students head back to school on Monday

The new school year begins next Monday, Aug. 24, for students in the Greene County and Paton-Churdan districts.

Students in the Greene County district will be dismissed early Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday according to the usual Wednesday schedule (intermediate school at 1:30, middle and elementary at 1:40, and high school at 1:45 pm).

On all four days, that time will be used for mini parent-teacher conferences. The conferences will be 15 minutes long and will provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to get to know each other and ensure a communication plan is in place for the new year.

At the elementary level, parents will meet with their child’s classroom teacher. At the intermediate level, grades 4-6, parents will meet with their child’s homeroom teacher. Conferences at the middle school level will be with “base camp” teachers, and conference at the high school will be with advisory teachers.

Parents can sign up for conferences on-line or call their child’s school to set up a conference. High school advisory teachers are contacting parents.

To schedule a conference online, use the following webpages: elementary – www.myconferencetime.com/gces; intermediate – www.myconferencetime.com/gcis; and middle – www.myconferencetime.com/gcms. Click on the name of the needed teacher and select the date and time for the conference by clicking on “sign up”. There are tutorial videos on the website to help with the process.

Paton-Churdan students will not dismiss early Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.

In both districts, there is no school Friday. Teachers will have professional development that day. The speaker was scheduled before the school calendar was confirmed.
